221We are delighted to once again bring you our 2 day introductory course led by Geraint Evans- Dry Stone Walling Association Master Craftsman.

Dry Stone Walls are an ancient form of boundary. They are important in terms of landscape, ecology and conservation. North Wales has a plethora of differing rock and styles. However they are all built with the same basic principles of construction which adapt to all areas and the types of stone.

The age old practice of maintaining boundaries on a regular basis has diminished and nowadays the majority of Dry Stone Walls have fallen into disrepair. Repair is naturally expensive but a wall will outlast a fence many times over if constructed correctly. It will also provide shelter and a haven for wildlife. Grant schemes have been successful in helping to stop this trend but sadly many remain neglected.

Therefore the primary aim of our Taster Courses is to provide an insight into the craft and hopefully encourage individual interest, should you decide to participate in further training. A small section of wall will be used for practice purposes. Basic principles will be outlined in an introductory format during the two day period with a detailed Health and Safety element at the outset. It is emphasised that the time available only allows a course to provide initial instruction of the skill. This Taster will be held in an enjoyable, informal and relaxing manner but with Health and Safety being a priority at all times.

SPECIAL NOTE
All those attending will need to wear a strong pair of steel toe capped footwear, weather proof clothes and working gloves. In addition rain proof clothing would be advisable.
The course costs just £50 for the 2 days. Numbers are strictly limited so early booking is essential. For more information please contact the office.
