Ferns: an introduction

This course will focus on the identification and ecology of ferns. The course will include a field trip to a remarkable site which gives an eye-opening insight into the colonisation of land by these ancient plants hundreds of millions of years ago.

Seashore ecology walk
Sunday 19th September 2pm
Learn about the rich wildlife and important habitats of the Menai Strait. This walk will take us through the shore zones right down to low water, so bring your wellies and waterproofs! Meet at Moelyci at 1.30pm to share transport, or at Coed Cyrnol car park at 2pm.

National Vegetation Classification (NVC) survey: an introduction.
Monday 25th and Tuesday 26th October 9.30am-4pm
NVC is a tool for identifying and classifying habitats in an ecologically meaningful way. This important survey technique looks at plant species and their relationships. We will use botanically simple habitats as study examples, but some basic botanical knowledge would be an advantage.
